Story

 Oso:ah Foundation – “A Tree Planted in the Name of Peace”

- supports cultural and environmental preservation along with community wellbeing in Kwenitekwut (Connecticut Valley) and Western Massachusetts. Established 2008.

Inspired by a conversation at an Onondowaga (Seneca) homeland heritage site, oso:ah echoes the Onodowaga name for white pine, the tree that symbolizes the Great Peace among the Haudeonsaunee (Six Nations).

Oso:ah Foundation supports research, preservation, and education through Bridge in the Sky Medicine Circle, Maguonket Permafarm, and Massachusetts Ethical Archaeology Society.

Oso:ah and its branches operate on a shoestring budget working with all communities of all origins and destinations. Our entire budget goes to grassroots community work and operation of Oso:ah’s education platform.

Through its branches, for our tree of peace has:

• Worked with and supported over 50 organizations, colleges, and universities to educate about the Indigenous and environmental heritage of Massachusetts, with focus on Kwenitekwut (Connecticut Valley).  We have engaged community from New Jersey to Maine.

• Provided healing, trauma support, spiritual healing, cultural sharing and more through Bridge in the Sky Medicine Circle to individuals, families, marginalized groups, and other community.

• Through Maguonket Permafarm, provided organic, carbon-negative herbal medicines, fresh vegetables, fruits, and store-bought groceries for struggling families and individuals who cannot access or have not obtained relief by other means

• Decolonized the narrative on Massachusetts Indigenous legacy through archaeology and ethnic studies while sharing well-documented educational materials cost-free equally without barriers to access through Massachusetts Ethical Archaeology.

• Supported community action and other organizations in preservation and conservation of forests, Ceremonial Stone Landscapes, important archaeological sites, equal rights, and social justice.
